Hello beautiful people!
There are few things that make me as happy as summertime does. Everything from the smell of the ocean air to the bbq firing up, to the sound of a splashing pool and the all the dresses I can get my hands on. There’s something about summer that takes me back to my childhood a little bit.
I used to visit both my grandparents and my great-grandma over the summers when I was a kid. I learned oodles of good recipes from both households but todays recipe, comes from the kitchen of my great-grandma, Charlene. Her lemonade recipe! I’ve altered it just a tad to make it a little healthier (cut back the sugar!) which also makes it a little more tart. My two favorite things for summer lemonade.
Summer Lemonade
Ingredients
- 10 large juicy lemons If they're not very juicy, add a couple more!
- 5 large juicy limes If they're not very juicy, add a couple more!
- 3 large oranges
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 4 cups warm water
Instructions
- Put a small sieve strainer over the top of a large measuring cup or a bowl. Cut all the fruit in half, and using a lemon squeezer, squeeze all of the fruit over the sieve and let the juice fall into the bowl. You should have about 1 3/4 cup worth of fruit juice. If you don't, juice some more lemons and limes.
- Pour that juice into the bottom of a pitcher. Add your sugar and the 4 cups of warm water. Stir to combine until the sugar dissolves. Top with sliced fruit and pour over ice.
This is a staple in my house and will be in yours too! If you like an even tarter lemonade, try cutting the sugar back to 1/3 cup.
