Homemade Apple Sauce

Hello darlings,

This week for #easymondays I thought I would share a recipe with you that has been a favorite of mine since I was a little girl. I used to spend the summers with my grandparents and my grandma definitely instilled in me the love for cooking. She has some recipes that are distinct to her…like her spaghetti bolognese. It’s sweet! I will make it for the blog soon. 🙂

But also, her applesauce. I’m surprised at how simple it is! As a kid, homemade apple sauce seemed like such an incredible thing and a far better alternative to the jarred stuff. I like mine warm, chunky with hints of cinnamon. Which is exactly what this is! I hope you love it.

Homemade Apple Sauce

Warm, chunky and hints of cinnamon. Just perfect.
Author: Tessa Port

Ingredients

  • 10 apples, peeled and quartered, core removed I use 7 honeycrisp and 3 granny smith
  • 2 cups water
  • 10 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  • After you've peeled, quartered and cut the cores out of the apples, put them in a big pot over medium heat. Pour your water over them and cover with a lid. Letting it simmer until apples are puffy.
  • Once apples are fork tender and puffy, drain all but about 1/2 cup of water. Return pot to stove top. Add your sugar, butter and cinnamon. Using a potato masher, mash the apples to your desired consistency. If you like super smooth apple sauce, use an immersion blender.
