Hello darlings,
Last week I had the pleasure of filming a cooking video with my friend Caitlin from @lostluxe. She is a total sweetheart and when asked what her favorite holiday dishes were, “bread pudding” was one of her first thoughts. I can’t blame her, it really is a classic holiday dish. With that being said, here is my bread pudding recipe that will make you all warm and fuzzy and bring back that nostalgic feeling. Bread Pudding
Bread Pudding
Ingredients
- 1 loaf day old french bread, cubed about 8 cups
- 2 cups milk
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp bourbon
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 2 tbsp sugar for dusting
- 1 tbsp cinnamon for dusting
For the caramel bourbon sauce
- 1 stick butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp bourbon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Place your cubed bread into a large bowl. In a separate medium bowl, whisk the milk, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg 1/2 cup of sugar and bourbon. Pour the milk and egg mixture over the cubed bread and fold it over and over to fully coat the bread. If using raisins, add them now and fold in. Let sit for a few minutes. Combine the dusting sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Lightly grease a 7x11 pan. Pour the mixture into the pan and lightly press down to create an even top. Sprinkle with the cinnamon and sugar mixture. Bake for 35-40 minutes.
- While that's baking, make the sauce. In a medium saucepan, combine all of the sauce ingredients. Whisk the whole time. Bring to a light boil and boil for 2 minutes. Then remove from heat. Pour over the bread pudding and enjoy.
An easy, peasy recipe that is festive and cozy! Perfect for dessert, breakfast or a snack in the middle of the night if you’re like me. It is sweet but not overly and the bourbon caramel sauce is unreal!
