We’re Pregnant / First Trimester Update
Hello darlings,
When we first found out, we both were extremely happy but reserved. We were holding our breath and refraining from truly celebrating until our first appointment to confirm normalcy. Given our previous pregnancy ended in miscarriage, our doctor wanted to see us at week 6 rather than week 8, which is the normal time for most pregnant women to be seen. So we went in at week 6 and were so full of love and happiness to hear that baby was growing and looking normal. What a miracle!
We’ve been going every two weeks to the doctor. At week 6, 8 and 10. But given Covid-19, all non-essential doctor visits have been cancelled. Therefore my 12 week appointment was cancelled. A whole month and a half without seeing my doc. I definitely felt anxious at times but tried really hard to only focus on the love. We are now 17 weeks along!
Now for a first trimester update…
First off, I just want to say that every pregnancy looks different. Some women don’t show many symptoms and that is totally fine while others have extreme symptoms. All are okay! Just so long baby is growing and your doctor is happy. 💕
- Food aversions and nausea. I never actually threw up, but I felt like I wanted to a lot. A couple things that grossed me out: Eggs and truffles or anything with truffle flavoring. I would also sit down to eat a yummy meal from a restaurant and could only take 2 bites. My taste buds were like, “No, no. This isn’t working for us.” Because of this, I also felt absolute no desire to cook. This started about week 6 and lasted for about 2 1/2 weeks.
- Extreme exhaustion. I was so tired all of the time. My body needed at least and hour long nap every single day. Even after the nap I had zero energy to do anything. If you were paying attention to my social media, you might’ve noticed “Oh, Tessa isn’t on here as much. She’s not talking to us.” Yeah, well, I wasn’t. haha It was really hard for me to fake energy. This kicked in around week 6 and lasted through week 12.
- Cravings started kicking in for me right about when my food aversions went away. It was like the flood gates were opened and I suddenly wanted to eat everything in sight. A few constant cravings for me: Potatoes. Any kind, any style. Just lots of potatoes. Strawberry ice cream. You would not believe how hard it was to find strawberry ice cream when that craving kicked in. Los Angeles had just gone into full lockdown and obvi being preggo, Joey and I were avoiding the stores unless absolutely necessary. I tried ordering it for weeks via Amazon Fresh (literally two weeks of me refreshing the delivery windows while lying on the couch. Envision that. It’s kinda funny.) before I finally decided to Postmates a strawberry milkshake (with whipped cream). That was the absolute best decision. Onion rings accompanied it. Donuts were another one. That has subsided a bit since I’ve been baking more and have been eating all the yummy treats I’ve whipped up. These cravings are still going strong.
A couple tips for cravings…
- I think this goes without saying but, you’re pregnant- eat the damn cake. However, I really have been diligent about maintaining my “moderation is key” motto that I live by. When I sit down with my ice cream, I do not sit down with the pint and a spoon. I give myself two generous scoops in bowl and enjoy it.
- If there is a healthier option that still satisfies, do it. For instance, my potatoes. Sweet potatoes are much more nutrient dense therefore, I’ve been eating mashed sweet potatoes on the reg. Sure, they have butter and brown sugar in them but hey, it’s better than eating white potatoes all the time and still fulfills that starchy, creamy craving… I might go have some now, actually.
We feel blessed and sooo excited and cannot wait to meet our little bundle of joy come October. Are you pregnant right now? How are you dealing with the Covid-19 crisis? I plan on doing a post on this as things develop further.
xx
