Hello darlings,
Jalepeño poppers are one of those appetizers that immediately get me excited when I see them. They’re creamy, cheesy, crunchy, spicy and salty. So many wonderful things rolled up in one little popper! I know many of you have probably had fried poppers…they’re a bar food staple and no, they never disappoint. However, when cooking at home I’m always looking for “healthier” alternatives for cooking.
It’s sometimes not easy. But these are a little lighter than some because of the lack of oil used for frying. That’s right, not fried, baked. These guys aren’t breaded or fried. They’re baked.
Jalepeño Poppers
Ingredients:
- 10 large jalepeños, halved and seeded
- 1 package cream cheese, softened
- 1 full cup sharp cheddar, shredded
- 1 green onion, thinly sliced
- 8-10 pieces of bacon
- Salt and pepper
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- Cut the tops off of the peppers and cut in half lengthwise. Remove all the seeds and veins using a spoon.
- Combine the remaining ingredients in a bowl until well combined.
- Spoon the cheese mixture into the halves of the jalepeños and arrange on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-15 until cheese is lightly browned.
- Top with bacon or more green onions if you like.
Pretty simple little appetizer there for you! And oh so delicious. I took these to our families house the other night. For dinner, we all agreed to bring appetizers and have our meal be all these amazing apps while we watched the football game. Have to say, it was pretty perfect! Didn’t miss the main course at all. 🙂
I did some with bacon and some without. I know, why would anyone choose the ones without bacon?! I hear ya. But I try to accommodate any food restrictions if I know in advance. We have one niece that doesn’t eat pork so, there ya go! By the way, they’re delicious even without bacon.
I hope you guys like these! Let me know if you give them a try 🙂
