Investment pieces and why they’re worth it

Hey Darlings,

I wanted to share my thoughts on investment pieces and why they’re worth it. Well, not just me. Your bank account will agree. Which, I know sounds contradicting but trust me, it’s not. Not every item you purchase needs to be an investment. Then we’d all be like Carrie Bradshaw and our closets would be a dream. Let me explain the moment I realized that investing in some quality pieces was better than buying cheap items.

Two winters ago, I had a pair of black, over the knee suede boots that were from a well known, low-mid price brand. They cost me $100.

I wore them twice. Once to break them in because we all know that breaking in heels is necessary. I wore them to a dinner where all I had to do was walk from the car into the restaurant then back to the car and into the house. Then, the second time, I wore them out. I ended up having to walk 6 blocks in them (no valet and parking in LA sucks) and got blisters so bad I had to wear sandals for a week because of it.

From that moment on, I realized that spending $100 on cheaper boots was only costing me more money and making my feet ugly. I definitely knew that I wouldn’t be wearing those boots again. Not only were they uncomfortable but the heel was oddly placed and had me walking a bit like a duck. Which is never cute.

I ended up selling them to a second hand store which only gave me $12 for them. So that meant that I spent $88 to wear boots that made me walk like a duck for two nights. Doesn’t make sense does it?

So, I started trying on boots the next fall to see which ones were comfortable. Ding ding ding!! Stuart Weitzman was the answer. I am obsessed with their boots! They’re usually between $700-800. But you can often find them on sale (which I did, obviously) and saved $300 on them! I got the most gorgeous OTK black suede boots, that are so comfy I can walk around the streets of New York in them for a whole day, on sale for $500 from Bloomingdales, with 10% cash back via EBATES so, I got $50 back for them.

Basically, I spent $450 on a pair of staple boots that will last me for years that are comfortable and high quality. So, rather than spending $100/year on a pair of cheap, uncomfortable boots that I’m going to donate or try to sell somewhere, I invested in a pair of high quality boots. So, why are they worth it? Theoretically speaking, in a couple years, I will have saved money. 😀

The same can be said for designer bags. I have two and they are my babies!! I take such good care of them. I would have a heart attack if someone scratched them or spilled something on them. Literally.

When you start looking at things for the quality/investment rather than just the price, you will see that certain things are worth splurging on. Such as staple shoes and classic, designer bags. Let it be known, not everything you buy needs to be an investment or an expensive item!! I live for a good deal. Most of my clothes are off the shelves of Topshop, J Crew, Madewell and Zara and off the websites of Revolve and Asos. Let’s be real.

If you guys have any questions, just ask. If you disagree, that’s okay! For all my fashionistas and style darlings out there, I think it’s smart to start a conversation about it. Why waste money on things you’ll replace in a year?
