Hello darlings,
As most of you probably know, I love to host. I am always hosting dinner parties or holiday parties! Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday for almost anyone you’d ask. There can be a lot of pressure for it to go off without a hitch. I’ve learned several things over the years about how to host and what not to forget etc. I’m going to share a few things with you that will make everyone think you are the hostess with the mostess this Thanksgiving and that you thought of everything! Because, let’s be honest, you did. As soon as your guests arrive….
- Food. Come up with a schedule for your cook times. Bake your desserts 1-2 days before the event. Remember to keep in mind that certain dishes get cold easily such as mashed potatoes or stuffing. So those things need to be considered when making your cooking schedule. If you are doing a potluck Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving, I would recommend assigning certain dishes to certain people so you don’t get repeats. We all love mashed potatoes but you don’t need ten of them. And if you’re hosting this, you are in charge of turkey. I have a whole Thanksgiving menu coming to you tomorrow!
- Ambiance. Depending on whether you want your Thanksgiving to be more casual or fancy, keep in mind that ambiance is always important. Have pumpkin candles lit for scent and mood. Have your table set with seasonal accents such as acorns, squash, or even pinecones. Have appropriate music playing, and festive decorations for the holiday scattered around the house.
- Drinks. Let there be drinks! Always have a plethora of choices for your guests. I always have at least one signature cocktail, sometimes two. For Thanksgiving, I like to do a mulled wine; all the spices and complex flavors really give that cozy intimate feel and lend themselves to fall vibes. I always make sure to have numerous bottles of wine, both red and white. And because I’m the type to prepare everything, when guests ask what they can bring I just say “themselves and wine”. It takes the pressure off of the guests so they know that they can just come, relax, and have a good time.
Those are the three most important things. If you pay attention to each of these, I assure you, your Thanksgiving meal will be a success.
