Hello my loves,
If you haven’t already seen, I have uploaded the first episode of Honestly Delicious to youtube! I’m sharing an easy to follow guide showing how to make my herbed butter thanksgiving turkey. You can find the video HERE.
For me, Thanksgiving is all about tradition. Which is why each year, I have a hard time pulling myself away from the staple dishes. Over the years, I’ve experimented with new recipes or twists on classics. And each year I come up with at least one new dish that is different from your normal Thanksgiving dish.
Honestly Delicious Thanksgiving Menu 2019
- I always start any dinner party or Friendsgiving/Thanksgiving celebration with one or two light appetizers. My first year hosting friends, I did too many apps and it distracted (and prevented) people from enjoying the main course. Trial and error my friends! However, this Baked Brie with Cranberry Compote is now a staple at my Thanksgiving celebration.
- Salads are something that should be on every holiday table to help break up all of the carbs and starches. This Fall Salad with Persimmons and a Citrus Walnut Dressing is definitely the way to go. It’s festive for the season yet light and healthy!
- Green bean casserole is a classic but it is heavy. I thought I would freshen it up a bit by keeping the cream out but all of the buttery, mushroom flavor in. Check out my Green Beans with Sauteed Mushrooms and Crispy Shallots.
- You can’t have Thanksgiving without stuffing. It’s one of those things that just has to be on the table or you’ll have several people yell out, “Wait! Where’s the stuffing?!” Now, technically, if it’s not cooked inside of the turkey, it is called dressing. But to me that sounds kinda gross so I call it stuffing. My recipe for Classic Thanksgiving Stuffing fills all the stuffing voids!
- The main event. Turkey. Everybody loves it. It’s a big piece of meat and can often be intimidating. Check out my recipe for Herbed Butter Turkey with White Wine Gravy and if you want to see a little bit more hands on, check out my video HERE.
- A new dish that I came up with this year, Butternut Squash Gratin. While this tastes and feels just as comforting as a starchy, carb loaded side dish, it’s much lighter thanks to the squash. The parmesan bread crumbs are just to die for. Trust me. It was a crowd favorite this year!
- Cranberry Salad is another thing that is a must! Truth: I have a fear of the canned cranberries. It’s just a jiggly roll of preserved something that gives me the heebie jeebies. Thank goodness my grandma passed her recipe for cranberry salad down to me because it is delicious and is always a hit. Pro of this dish is that it can be made 1-2 days ahead of the meal.
- A crowd favorite, Pumpkin Pie. My pumpkin pie has some unexpected spices that are subtle yet make all the difference. More of an elevated pumpkin pie! Always a favorite at our house!
- To switch it up and not go with another pie, I made a Classic Apple Crisp this year. Nostalgia kicks in when you see the bubbling apples and vanilla bean ice cream start to melt on the top. My apple crisp has a fabulous caramelization to the filling and the top crisp layer is unreal. You will love this!
