Thanks to Rodan + Fields for sponsoring this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Hello my darlings,
It’s been a minute since I’ve done a skincare post. You know I’m a product loyalist and would never suggest a skincare product that didn’t work for me. Skin is too precious and really is one of those things that can make or break confidence for a while. I know when I have a bad breakout I don’t want to go anywhere! Anyone else?? That may sound silly but it’s true!
Rodan + Fields reached out to me and wanted me to test their brand new SOOTHE Regimen and give my honest opinion on the products. Before I dive in with my review, I want to remind you of my skin type!
My skin is definitely sensitive. By that, I mean it gets red pretty easily. It also gets clogged/congested easily. I have combination-oily skin, with an oily t-zone and drier cheeks. Over the years, I have learned that the key to keeping my skin clear and happy (and in turn, myself happy) is balancing out that oil/moisture and also using non-comedogenic products so the pores stay happy and clear.
Because I know my skin’s sensitivity, whenever I introduce new products I do so one at a time. That way if I have a reaction, I know which product caused it. With this line, I started with the cleanser and then added the treatment, followed by the moisturizer and lastly the SPF. I’m going to list out the products they sent me and give my honest review on each of them, as well as some of the ingredient highlights. While these products were gifted, the opinions are my own.
- Rodan + Fields Soothe Calming Gel Cleanser ($45). First off I want to start by saying, I love a gel cleanser. I have tried other types (balm to oil, straight up oil, foamy, etc.) and gels are always my favorite. This is a non-foaming cleanser that removes impurities including makeup from the skin without disrupting its natural PH balance. I still used a makeup wipe to remove makeup before cleansing. That acts as a double cleansing method which I prefer. I really like this cleanser and will continue using it.
- Rodan + Fields Soothe Sensitive Skin Treatment ($90). This product I found to be incredibly helpful on my cheeks. With the current COVID crisis and wearing masks all the time, I find my cheeks are a little extra sensitive. They have been getting congested more and certain areas of my face get visibly red from wearing masks all the time. This treatment has definitely helped to calm the visible redness and makes the skin feel so soft. Let’s talk about a couple of this product’s standout ingredients: First up is Cherimoya Fruit Extract. It helps to calm stressed looking skin. Who doesn’t want that? The next standout ingredient: Allantoin. Allantoin is an extract from the comfrey plant. It has many benefits for the skin including improving the skin’s natural healing process (yay for acne), it acts an emollient that keeps your skin moisturized and prevents dryness and irritation, improves skin dullness and rejuvenates natural cell turnover meaning it’s an effective anti-aging ingredient while still being gentle. For me this product was best on the dry parts of my face. It is fragrance free and non comedogenic.
- Rodan + Fields Soothe Moisturizing Rescue Cream ($60). This is a colloidal oatmeal moisturizer that offers protection from daily aggressors and helps the skin retain moisture. It’s deeply hydrating and really makes the skin look supple. It’s super creamy and lightweight yet, it delivers quite the moisture punch. My nose was peeling one day, no idea why, I starting using this cream and it provided visible results instantly. This moisturizing rescue cream is a great option for those that suffer from flare ups caused by eczema and atopic dermatitis. (I have atopic dermatitis around my eyes) Even better, this cream is fragrance free and non comedogenic which means, incredibly moisturized skin without clogging the pores. For me, this cream was better on the drier regions of my face.
- Rodan + Fields Soothe Daily Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($40). I have always loved mineral sunscreen. They are more effective than non mineral formulas! I’ve been diligent about facial sunscreen for years now as it really does assist with preventing premature aging. This lightweight formula calms, soothes and minimizes visible redness while defending skin against environmental stressors. Protects against UVB and UVA. This sunscreen is fragrance free and non comedogenic.
The total price for this complete line is $190.
Now that we have walked through each product, I’d like to give you my thoughts on the line.
Honestly, I think this particular line from Rodan + Fields is great for those with dry skin, visible redness, overall skin sensitivities, and people suffering flares from eczema and atopic dermatitis. For my combination skin, the moisture was unnecessary for the oily regions of my face. I did find this line helpful for the drier parts, though! Even though it wasn’t necessary for my oily parts, I will say that it didn’t cause any breakouts or congestion for my pores. (Yay) I do have atopic dermatitis on some areas of my skin so I can see myself using this Regimen when that flares up for sure. Overall I would say that I’m impressed with this line and am happy to have it in my cabinet. SOOTHE can also be used for other parts of the body that may be experiencing visible redness, dryness or irritation.
While complete facial lines are formulated to all work together, sometimes we’re just looking for one product to bring into the rotation, ya know? If that’s you and you are wondering which product out of these four to add to your rotation, I would recommend the Rodan + Fields Sensitive Skin Treatment. The ingredients in it really cover a wide array of skin issues.
If you don’t suffer from dry skin but are looking for new products, Rodan + Fields just released brand new lines for everything from adult acne, to targeting skin discoloration, to reducing fine lines and wrinkles, to improving dullness, Rodan + Fields definitely has a line or product for every skin type and concern.
