Okay loves, it’s about to get real up in here. My username and website is @HonestDarling for a reason. I don’t want to sugar coat things and make people think I’m perfect or that you have to be perfect. Because, well, that’s just impossible. Filters are a blessing and are absolutely fabulous, yes. However, I want those gals out there who are dealing with skin problems to feel like they have hope. Let me explain my problem….
First of all, I have super sensitive skin. It’s combination oily with some dry areas around my mouth and cheeks. I can’t use anything that has rose in it or I’ll break out in a rash. I also have eczema around my eyes that flares up sometimes.
I had been using Clinique for 13 years. I never had acne as a teenager or young adult. It kept my face clear and smooth for 13 years so I can’t knock it too hard. Skin changes! And mine did BIG TIME.
Earlier this year, in January (also happened to be the months leading up to my wedding), I started getting terrible clogged pores. Not like the tiny little ones that you can’t see because they’re flat against your face. Mine were inflamed and the pores were open. So naturally, I picked and starting squeezing. NOT SMART.
So, I started going to a dermatologist to get facials done every month thinking that would help.
Then I added on Microdermabrasion thinking that would help. It really didn’t help. If anything, it made it worse. It over stimulated my oily skin and made my face produce even more oil. So remember that you don’t have to do a ton to your skin to get it to cooperate. You just need effective products and a consistent routine.
I know, not cute. Scary for me to put out here like this too since I’m a bit of a perfectionist but, I think it’s important for other women to see that skin problems can happen to anyone. Even those who haven’t ever had them before.
After doing a ton of googling and talking to friends about different products and services, I started going to Skin Laundry for their 15 minute Laser and Light facials. They completed changed the course of my skin. The facials cleared my current breakout and prevented new ones from forming all the while diminishing my scarring. Truly, a game-changer for me.
I no longer get facials there unless I’m dealing with a pesky breakout that won’t go away. What’s really kept my skin clear is my routine. I learned through all this that even oily skin needs hydration. Cream based moisturizers aren’t always the best for me. Facial oils are my best friend and I cannot live without them. We all have different skin care needs but remember that our skin needs regular exfoliation (please stop using the apricot scrub as it’s way too harsh on skin! It legit damages your skins cells.) and moisture. If we all do those things, our skin should mostly be taken care of.
Also using a cleansing cloth before washing has helped my skin! It removes makeup and dirt so that your cleanser can penetrate deeper into your pores.
