I have a couple of amazing BBQ sauces to share with you guys that would be perfect for the 4th! They’re so easy! I’ve been thinking a lot about prepackaged foods and how I can consume less of them. Now, I know that you’re busy, I’m busy, we’re all busy so making everything homemade isn’t always plausible. However, I do think it’s good to do when you can! So here is my first BBQ recipe for you. It delivers a serious tang thanks to the lemon juice and apple cider vinegar and also the tiniest bit of heat with the aftertaste.
Tangy Texas BBQ Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced (about 2 large cloves if using fresh)
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
Directions:
- In a medium sauce pan, melt the butter and add the onion. Cook 2-3 minutes until softened. Add in the minced garlic and cook and cook for another minute until fragrant. Stir in the remaining ingredients, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
THAT’S IT. I told you it was easy! This is a thicker bbq sauce and is perfect for basting. But you can use it for anything you’d normally use a bbq sauce for.
