Hey darlings! I wanted to share with you our Friendsgiving and more specifically, the tablesetting. I think it turned out pretty well!
Now, I am by no means an interior decorator or designer. I wish I had those skills. However, I know how to create a realistic table scape that anyone can do. And more importantly, it doesn’t break the bank. We received this china as a wedding gift, so that’s nice. 😉 However, this table would’ve looked just as gorgeous with plain white china.
3 Tricks for a Fancy Tablescape
- China. You don’t have to have super fancy expensive china. Target sells very nice sets for any budget that look fantastic. Just so long you’re not eating off of paper plates and all your plates match, at least in the same color scheme (mismatched plates can sometimes look amazing!)
- Cloth Napkins. I know, paper towels sound so easy and appealing. But wow, cloth napkins make a huge difference. And they really aren’t expensive. Add on a little napkin ring…you’re good to go.
- Stemmed wine glasses. I know the stemless are easy and feel “safe” because they don’t topple over. But drinking wine out of an appropriate glass also makes a big difference. I had red and white wine glasses at the ready for all of my guests to choose what they wanted. It also allowed them to try a few different types of wine during the meal. I got my white wine glasses, a set of 4, at Marshalls for $7.99/box. Super cheap!
*wine tip* because of the salty sweet flavors of all the Thanksgiving fixings, the wine selections can seem daunting. I had champagne (no added sugar) ready in case anyone wanted it. Champagne (or prosecco) happens to pair very nicely with salty meals. Also: Unoaked Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Merlot go very well with most things on the Thanksgiving table. Try to steer clear of overly sweet wines like Pinto Grigio and Moscato and steer clear of heavy Cabernets.
I know buying seasonal plates and napkins sort of sounds cute and fun for hosting guests. Right? Like, how cute would cloth napkins be with little leaf prints on them? Or pumpkins? But then you have to find a place for them in your kitchen and you can only use them for a certain amount of time throughout the year.
I buy colors that I can use any time. So basically, I just buy gold. Ugh. I love gold flatware and napkins. It just looks so classy! Just so long you don’t go overboard…whatever that means.
Obviously, the centerpiece goes away once the food comes out. I leave it there during appetizers and remove it right before the meal is served. This wooden box makes that removal effortless. I got it on etsy for like $25. Then fill it with whatever seasonal things you want. I’m a sucker for a yummy smelling candle…I like to use one larger candle and add a few tea light candles around it.
I hope this post inspires your tablescape in some way! What do you think?
